If we are going to find ways to raise money to help support our endeavours to save the Bay of Fundy, it has been suggested that we form a nonprofit society. It means we would have to register this the same way one would register a business. Once we’re setup as a non-profit business, we can open a business bank account. This means we can prove we’re a business to PayPal, which means we can use a PayPal business account to collect and send more than $500 per month.
When you register a business/society name it costs around $70, but then they have to do search to make sure the name isn’t in use, and that costs around $35.
Say we set a goal for $120, and make it a rule that NO member of this group can donate any more than $2. That means out of the 934 members we have in this group… 60 or more have to donate. If we can’t reach our goal of $120, then we take this as “the group votes no to this idea” and we donate the money to a charity, like the Truro Homeless Shelter.
