Looking For help LEAP: No Gas Plants in Pictou County
Quote from Steve MacLellan on August 9, 2026, 6:46 pm
Hello folks and happy August!
Thanks to the incredible work across this community and support from our allies, LEAP is growing with momentum! To support this evolution and ensure success in our mission, we are reaching out to you, our community members, in search of people who can take ownership of strategic initiatives including:
- Website Admin - Wordpress Admin needed for website updates
- Fundraiser - Specific 'No Gas Plants' T-Shirt fundraiser for August/September and other fundraisers moving forward.
- Social Media/Content Creator
If you are interested in taking on a leadership role in one of the above, know someone who would be a great fit OR can contribute to an initiative that is not listed here, please reach out to us via email with the subject line: Strategic Initiatives Support.
Here are some LEAP highlights from the last 2 weeks:
- See links(below) to the media coverage from the peaceful protest outside of Tim Houston’s State of the Province luncheon on July 29th. Please watch for and share NEW social media videos, from the event, which we will post over the coming weeks.
- The streams near the proposed sites continue to be monitored, checking several parameters frequently over the summer. One of the core group, spent an afternoon with a person from the Pictou County Rivers Association and experienced firsthand the efforts of this important nonprofit group to understand how they work to protect, monitor and restore the watersheds of our County.
- A judge has approval a delay in our standing session which will now be sometime in the fall with our legal counsel present.
- Happy to announce the successful bidder of our silent auction Cyndi Park, who took home the beautiful painting of the Marshdale watershed, created and donated by Sherry Groves. All proceeds will support the legal team's case against the provincial government over flawed environmental assessments for these two projects. Thank you to everyone who placed a bid and shared the information about the fundraiser!
In the Press: Members of our community showed up for a peaceful protest outside of Tim Houston’s State of the Province luncheon on July 29th. Shout out to those who were present and asked questions of our Premier. Here's a list of news clips and articles:
