NOFRAC Brings Bluedot to your Municipality

This Blue Dot movement is a nation-wide initiative of the David Suzuki Foundation. (Image courtesy of Wikipedia)There’s a growing movement afoot! Let’s encourage Nova Scotia’s municipal councils to pass declarations recognizing people’s right to live in a healthy environment. Yarmouth has already done this, and work is under way in several other communities.

This Blue Dot movement is a nation-wide initiative of the David Suzuki Foundation. Across the country, more than 79,000 Canadians have joined the movement, and 70+ communities have already signed a municipal declaration. This includes both large cities like Montreal and Vancouver, and smaller communities such as Yarmouth and Stratford PEI.

The hope is that municipalities and then provinces will come on side, with the eventual goal of getting our right to a clean and healthy environment included in Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. More than 110 countries around the world already recognize a right of this sort, but Canada does not!

How many municipal councils in Nova Scotia will join Yarmouth in asserting our right to a healthy environment? That’s up to us!

Check out the Blue Dot website, learn about the plan, tell some friends, and contact your municipal councillor to let her or him know you’d like your community to be part of this action. Together we can do it!
