I read a recent article in Maclean’s that explains the standoff more clearly.
The protesters are following the lead of the Hereditary Chiefs, while the representatives of the First Nations who were consulted (and who are recognized as the leaders of those Nations and who gave a green light to the pipeline route) are not.
Too right. Nowadays, the gov’t pretends it consults the public, then it does whatever it pleases.
