Houston says Bloc should reconsider opposition to Energy East

Nova Scotia’s premier says the Bloc Quebecois’ opposition to moving energy from Western Canada to the Atlantic provinces is “completely unacceptable.”

Tim Houston has in recent weeks brought up the idea of resurrecting the Energy East pipeline, an idea Bloc Quebecois leader Yves Francois Blanchet has said his party is “fiercely opposed to.”

“As you are aware, we are in a unique time where national unity and national self-reliance is more important than ever,” Houston wrote in a letter to Blanchet dated Friday. |Read more|

Blanchet says it isn't going to happen. The last time it was proposed to run the Energy East pipeline through Quebec, it was met with fierce resistance. It would have to have social license to be considered, and there is none.

An article in the Western Standard says:

Speaking to reporters Thursday — en Francais — Blanchett dismissed any thought of reviving an oil pipeline from Alberta or even the possibility of an LNG terminal near Saguenay, which he termed a “zombie” project.

“We are fiercely opposed to any type of transport on Quebec territory of hydrocarbons from Western Canada to any market whatsoever. It does not serve Quebec. It does not serve the environment. It does not serve the planet,” he said.

Furthermore, it would seem, the best choice for Nova Scotia is to keep increasing their energy security through renewable resources, that have a much less expensive price tag, than building infrastructure that is sure to become a stranded asset with no chance of paying for itself.

I found a letter Houston wrote to Bloc Quebecois leader Yves Francois Blanchet

Insulting Blanchet, and calling him "small-minded" is sure to help the situation and the people of Nova Scotia.... 🙁
